Umbilical hernia

Umbilical hernia

Umbilical hernia appears in the umbilical aperture or nearby the navel, which is the natural weak place on the front abdominal wall. These hernias may arise in suckling babies, from non-closure of umbilical ring but also due to the weakness in this areas they appear also in adults, independent of their age. Overweight, increased intra-abdominal pressure from excessive cough, chronic constipation or pregnancy are the reason for it. Umbilical hernia in adults is treated only by operation.
